How do I access Canvas as a student? ›

You can access Canvas through an institution-specific Canvas URL, your school's website, a course invitation email, or the Canvas Student iOS app or Canvas Student Android app. You must have an account to log in to Canvas. View troubleshooting steps if you are unable to log in to Canvas.

Verify Username & Password

If you use more than one Canvas URL, make sure you are using the correct login and password for each Canvas URL. If your login and password were given to you from your institution and you are having trouble logging in, please contact your institution.

It is possible that the browser is not compatible with Canvas. If you have the same issue, try another computer. Sometimes your browser's Cache needs to be cleared, especially if you changed your password recently or if you bookmark the Canvas Login page.

Through the Quiz Log function, the system will detect when the person taking the online test opens a new tab or browser, recording and reporting any suspicious action. Canvas can also avert cheating by locking the browser during the exam. Canvas tracks the time spent by the student on each question.

Your Canvas password is the same as your Google/Chromebook password (student id #).

Are you receiving a “400- Bad Request: Request header too long” error? This issue is caused by a bad cookie and can be removed. You may wish to remove this cookie without deleting history by selectively deleting only the Canvas related cookie (canvas.cornell.edu or cornell.instructure.com.

If you are not using Canvas through your institution, you can create your own account. Your instructor will provide. you with a join code to link you directly to the course. This code will be sent to you separately from the Canvas. email that invites you to join the course.

Though Student ID information is not displayed in the Canvas gradebook, it is available in the gradebook export. In the export file there is a column titled “SIS User ID" that has the student ID number associated with each student.

Log in to Canvas with your usual username and password. Select the course for which you would like to activate your subscription. Select the "Activate Your Subscription" link.

From the course navigation menu, select Settings. In the "Settings" sidebar at the right, select Delete All Course Content. You will be prompted to confirm. To proceed, choose Reset Course Content.
