Black Sesame Cherry Smoothie (2024)

This dark and delectable smoothie recipe is inspired by the fireproof elixir from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. Including sesame seeds and frozen dark cherries, this summer drink will keep you cool on a scorching hot day, but also potentially help you sleep!

How to stay firesafe on Death Mountain.

Fireproof elixirs are absolutely essential to starting your travels into Goron City and Death Mountain. Even if you do get one piece of the flamebreaker armor, you may still need an additional boost from a fireproof elixir to stay completely cool.

Keep in mind that to make a lot of fireproof elixirs, you’ll be spending some time looking for fireproof lizards and smotherwing butterflies. Having the stealth armor can help a lot with this in the long run, and it’s a set you can get fairly early into either game.

My best and easiest fireproof elixir recipe I’ve found is to cook three fireproof lizards with two bokoblin fangs. Smotherwing butterflies or fire chuchu jellies also work in place of fireproof lizards, but the lizards are so plentiful all over Eldin it seems nonsensical to not use them and we all know there are better uses for chuchu jellies now.

You can also buy fireproof lizards from Beedle in some locations (or weaker fireproof elixirs for that matter). Additionally, you can use monster extract in your elixirs, available from Tarrey Town in Totk, or Kilton’s travelling shop in Botw.

Fireproof Elixir in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild: fireproof lizards + monster parts

Also, it makes little sense to me to use higher quality monster parts in potions, unless you’re looking to get the longest lasting 30 minute buff. For that, cook a dragon horn with four fireproof lizards. Dinraal’s horn makes sense to get for this one specifically.

You can of course, easily farm dragon parts in Breath of the Wild by lighting a campfire and just repeatedly shooting the dragon each time it passes through Tanagar Canyon. You can make a fire directly on the Tabantha Great Bridge and wait each time until morning.

The dragons appear to have different schedules in Tears of the Kingdom, however all the dragons follow a route in Tears of the Kingdom that takes them through chasms to the depths and then back up to the surface – like a three-dimensional conveyor belt.

To farm Dinraal’s parts, make a campfire next to one of the chasms used by the dragon, either the Drenan Highland Chasmor the East Akkala Plains Chasm. You can easily shoot the dragon when it comes in or out of each chasm respectively.

The mildly ironic thing about farming Dinraal’s dragon parts is that you might need a fireproof elixir or two to build an even better fireproof elixir – unless you already have more flamebreaker armor, but then why are you making fireproof elixirs? Well, maybe you’re upgrading the Hylian Tunic now instead… but, on to the recipe!

  • Skip this step if you are using ready-make sesame paste.

2. Add all the ingredients to a blender. Pulse blend until smooth.

  • Add all the ingredients to your blender, and blend in pulses of about 10-20 seconds until fully mixed.
  • Stir the mixture in between pulses with a spoon if needed. Please unplug your blender if you do this, as a safety precaution! Don’t ever put your hands in a charged blender!

3. Serve and enjoy!

  • Pour into serving glasses and garnish if desired. I recommend more sesame seeds or fresh cherries.

Fireproof Smoothie, The Perfect Evening Dessert

This smoothie is so delicious, and the sesame seeds and cherries make me so sleepy, due to the tryptophan and melatonin they contain, respectively. It’s great as a summertime dessert, and light enough you won’t go fall asleep feeling immensely full.

That being said, it’s also a delicious breakfast! If I’m getting enough sleep, I don’t find it makes me too sleepy in the morning, especially paired with a cup of tea or coffee.

You can also easily customize this recipe by replacing the milk with yogurt, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, or even vanilla ice cream for some extra decadence! You could also add more protein with some protein powder, though add some extra liquid if you do this.

Did you make this black sesame cherry smoothie? Let me know!
